Here’s a neat theory I stumbled upon: Is Hero’s Shade from Twilight Princess the Link from Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask?
In Twilight Princess, you meet a character named Hero’s Shade, the ghost of a past hero that trains Link in swordsmanship. That alone suggests that this may be a Link from a previous era (in case you didn’t know, it’s been confirmed that there are multiple Links throughout the LoZ timeline).
There’s a theory for Majora’s Mask that suggests the game was actually about Link’s death. To sum it up, Link goes into the Lost Woods without a fairy, it’s stated that in Ocarina of Time that anyone that wonders into the Lost Woods without a fairy will turn into a Stalfos, themes in Majora’s Mask hint at the stages of death with acceptance at the end of the story.
Back to Hero’s Shade, notice how similar he looks to a Stalfos. Also, Hero’s Shade responds to four songs used in Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask. He even exactly quotes the Happy Mask Salesman from Majora’s Mask: “Believe in your strengths.”
Cool stuff, eh? Click here for an illustration on one of the death theories (this one is a variant to the one I read, which I can’t find…) and the Stalfos/Hero’s Shade theory.
